Crisis. What is a crisis? What does it mean? Why are we in a crisis today? What is the way out? What is a crisis? And how do you deal with it? How long will it last?
Crisis is an ancient Greek word that means “condemnation” and also “accusation, damnation, judgment”( Strong's Greek Dictionary 2920). Why is the real meaning of this word so important to us today? Because it helps us to find the real cause of the crisis. We know that in order to solve a problem we must find the cause and not fight with it’s consequences. Of course it is easy to accuse visible symptoms or other people rather then to find the invisible (but true) cause of the problem. But if we want to truly solve the problem we must dig to the root of the problem.
So then, crisis is condemnation as a result of committing crimes or breaching the law. By exchanging the clear word “condemnation” we replaced it with a confusing word “crisis” and in the processes deceived ourselves.
In reality any crisis is a consequence for breaching the laws or rules that God has established. Therefore a solution of this problem is very simple – REPENTANCE. “if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). Today we can clearly see godliness and violation of Gods laws in every class of society: rich and poor, educated and uneducated, strong and weak, old and young... Sexual immorality, adultery, selfish ambition, lies, love of money, idolatry and witchcraft (astrology, fortune-telling, guess-work), hatred, treachery, corruption, stealing, drunkenness, orgies, disrespect of parents, enmity between political parties, even between churches and denominations and so on. Instead of contemplating on the reasons why the disasters are occurring, people are once again looking for a scapegoat. They blame the president, governor, banks, and so on. Instead of repenting for their sins people are multiplying them. Some are declaring they “repented” but they don’t want to leave their sins because they love them. By the way, “repentance” is also an ancient Greek word that means “change of thinking and way of life”. True repentance before God is expressed in such a way: “...Take your evil deeds out of my sight. Stop doing wrong, learn to do right!...(Isaiah 1:16-17). Looking on very corrupt condition of humanity God doesn’t suggest or ask but He commands every human to repent: “...but now He commands all people everywhere to repent. For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead” (Acts 17:30-31).
So then we can make the following conclusions:
1. Crisis is Gods fair judgment for our sins;
2. The only way to avoid or escape it is by repenting of our sins before God.
3. Crisis will continue unless we repent and start to do what is right before God.
4. All people will have to face one more great “crisis” (judgment) which will take place after the end of their earthly life.
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10).
